Today i bring to you another surprise! I decided to start this little thing I like to call Review Monday! I asked a good friend of mine to do a little anime review this time, but I'll also review movies, tv shows, dramas, and a lot of other stuff so look forward to it!
Without further ado, here is the first review!

Hello everyone, my friend asked me if i could write some reviews from time to time for her (not exclusively anime reviews but that’s mainly what I watch and most of the books I read are science related so I’ll be sticking mostly with anime) so here I am.
I’ll be doing my review of the Tokyo Ghoul anime, keep in mind this review won’t cover “Root A” and I will be reviewing the anime by itself without taking the manga into account.
I guess first off I should talk about the opening not that there’s much to be said, I personally really liked it in terms of vocals, instrumentals and visuals (well, I guess them showing white-haired Kaneki might be something I don’t really like but more on that later). I guess you could say the opening stayed in my head like a flesh-eating centipede or something…
Moving on I’d like to bring up the book “The Metamorphosis” written by Franz Kafka simply for the sake of drawing parallels: in both the anime and the book the main character is, in a way turned into a “monster”, with the difference being Gregor (the main character from the book) is aware of having become a giant cockroach from the moment he wakes up while Kaneki only realizes he’s turned into a ghoul after trying to eat his favourite food and realizing it, quite literally, “tastes like shit” (which is similar to how in “The Metamorphosis” Gregor realizes that along with becoming a cockroach the food he used to love now tastes terrible).
Now that I’ve finally mentioned ghouls outside of mentioning the title I should talk about how I dislike how they are portrayed, many anime have a species/group of people that are without a doubt stronger and more apt than normal humans somehow subjugated by humanity something that breaks my suspension of disbelief especially when, in this case, the ghouls appear to be a species that feeds on humans and should be above them on the food chain but somehow humans still have their cities and live relatively peacefully.
“The quinque used by the CCG seem like advanced technology so how was humanity even fighting ghouls this whole time?” I question, there’s also the fact that we never get a good explanation as to how the medical procedure that turned Kaneki into a ghoul actually happened, it kakuhou? I doubt normal humans have any place in their bodies where you could seems to be implied that it’s an organ transplant but WHERE would they put the organ? Speaking of the doctor, just how many people actually know what he did just put a new organ; also do ghouls even have the same blood types as humans? And how could the doctor be sure that Kaneki’s body wouldn’t reject the new one doctor in a room so clearly at least a handful of the medical staff at the to Kaneki and helped him do it? Surgeries aren’t something that is done by just hospital knew and contributed…
I have somewhat learned to just ignore these questions but when so many of them pop into my head in such a short time it’s hard to do so. In “The Metamorphosis” how Gregor turned into a cockroach is also never mentioned in the book, in fact the first line of the book is something along the lines of “Gregor Samsa woke up, metamorphosed into a cockroach.”, however it works because the book focus more on Gregor’s deteriorating relationship with his family, the author never tries to build a world around the story, the line also makes the reader understand a tiny fraction of how Gregor must be feeling.
Moving on from the science-y aspect, besides Kaneki’s journey which ends with him accepting his ghoul side by devouring Rise and finally somewhat giving up on the idea of coexistence between ghouls and humans (which I am thankful for since personally I believe the entire cliché of someone trying to “bridge the gap” and make two different species coexist is extremely idiotic, especially when , as previously mentioned the ghouls are technically humanity’s predator), we also have many other character to get acquainted with one of them is Kaneki’s best friend Hide who in my opinion could’ve used some more character development, or just more scenes with Kaneki in general so that we could really understand just how much they care for each other since just hearing how they met really doesn’t do much.
They were somewhat pressed for time in the sense that they had to end the anime with Kaneki’s drastic personality change since they put him in the opening knowing that manga readers would just start screaming about how awesome he was which was a bad idea since it kind of made some parts of the anime feel rushed but there wasn’t really a good stopping point prior to the Kaneki vs Yamori fight and even then the season still ended in the middle of the whole Anteiku vs Aogiri tree vs CCG thing. So the best thing they could’ve done was at least make this anime 24 episodes long but since they probably couldn’t take a such a big gamble they had to make it 12 episodes long (the animation for the first season was really good in my opinion so maybe that was part of the reason why it was only 12 episodes).
Continuing with talking about the characters, next we have Touka who I did like but I didn’t feel like she did much, to be honest it took me a pretty long time to realize she was Kaneki’s supposed “love interest” and I think part of that was I felt there wasn’t much development between the two, a common problem with a lot of characters including the ones I’m going to talk about next, Amon and Mado the two most prominent CCG agents in the anime.
Amon was an interesting character, after fighting Kaneki he somewhat starts questioning his beliefs however nothing was done with that and I feel like if we had gotten his backstory prior to the fight, or at any point in the anime he would’ve been more interesting, Madou also had the same problem as Amon, only after he dies do we learn that he had a wife and that she was killed by ghouls, in a bad attempt at making the audience sympathize with him, an attempt made even worse by the fact we only get a few lines about it nothing more, once again a character needed more fleshing out but couldn’t get it because of time constraints.
Related to Madou in a way we have Hinami (the token loli of the series I guess?) but I really don’t have much to say about her, we can sympathize more with her due to the fact that her mother died trying to protect her and that they didn’t stop there and even use her parent’s kagune against her but other than that there isn’t anything I want to address.
Next on the list Nishiki, another friend of Hide’s who is also a ghoul and attacks Hide while he and Kaneki were following him because we needed some threat and then Kaneki beats the living hell out of him, he somehow survives and now he’s just chilling with Kaneki and the others… that’s it, I guess after he becomes part of the Anteiku crew he becomes a nice guy.
Lastly I suppose I should mention Tsukiyama, he’s hilarious, he’s also kind of a nut job but at least in his case the other characters acknowledge that and try to somewhat keep their distance…
I think I focused on the negative parts way too much, it might actually give the idea that I didn’t like the show which is untrue I did like the anime mostly because of Kaneki’s development which is something that was done well enough and as the main point of the show I believe they succeeded, it’s only when you start looking at the other things going on that you start noticing how rushed it can feel at times, especially after so much time having gone by after I initially watched it, although I’ll admit I’m a fan of gore and seeing blood splatter in general especially in anime so that might’ve contributed to me enjoying the show…
I have to give it a rating even if I suck at it so, uhm, I guess I’ll give it 3,8 flesh eating centipedes out of 5?(Don’t question how I got 4 fifths of a centipede).

Hoje trago-vos outra das minhas surpresas que tinha falado! A partir de hoje vou ter este pequeno segmento que gosto de chamar Segunda de Reviews! Pedi a um amigo meu para fazer esta revisão de um anime, mas também rever filmes, séries, livros, dramas e muito mais, espero que gostem!

Olá a todos, a minha amiga perguntou-me se eu podia escrever algumas reviews de vez em quando (não exclusivamente de anime mas eu vejo isso principalmente e a maioria dos livros que leio são científicos por isso vou focar-me em fazer reviews de anime) por isso aqui estou eu.
Vou fazer a minha review de Tokyo Ghoul, tenham em conta que não falar sobre a “Root A” nem vou considerar a manga. Suponho que devia começar por falar da opening, não que haja muito que eu possa dizer, pessoalmente gostei muito dela em termos de vocais, instrumentais e visuais (bem, acho que não gostei deles mostrarem o Kaneki de cabelo branco mas falarei sobre isso mais tarde).Suponho que podem dizer que a opening ficou na minha cabeça como uma centopeia carnívora ou algo parecido…
Continuando gostaria de mencionar o livro “A Metamorfose” escrito por Franz Kafka simplesmente para poder tomar nota das semelhanças: em ambos os casos a personagem principal é, de certa maneira, transformada num “monstro” com a diferença sendo que o Gregor ( a personagem principal do livro) esta ciente do facto de se ter transformado numa barata gigante assim que acorda enquanto que o Kaneki só se apercebe do facto de se ter tornado um ghoul após tentar comer a sua comida favorita e se aperceber que esta, literalmente, “sabe a merda” ( o que se assemelha ao facto de, em “A Metamorfose”, Gregor se aperceber que, ao se tornar uma barata, a comida que adorava agora tem um sabor horrível).
Agora que finalmente mencionei os ghouls fora do título devia falar do facto de eu não gostar da maneira como estes são retratados, em muitas anime existe uma espécie/grupo que são sem sombra de dúvida mais fortes e mais aptos que humanos normais mas que são subjugados por estes, algo que quebra a minha imersão no mundo ficcional especialmente quando, neste caso os ghouls parecem ser a espécie que se alimenta dos humanos e que devia estar no topo da cadeia alimentar, mas de algo maneira a humanidade ainda tem as suas cidades e vive de maneira relativamente pacífica.
“Os Quinque utilizados pelo CCG parecem ser tecnologia avançada, como é que a humanidade se estava a defender antes de criarem os Quinque?”eu pergunto-me, também nunca nos explicam implícito que foi um transplante de órgãos mas ONDE podiam por o kakuhou? como é que a cirurgia que tornou o Kaneki um ghoul aconteceu realmente, está Duvido que os seres humanos normais tenham algum lugar no seu corpo onde se rejeitaria o novo órgão? Falando do médico, quantas pessoas sabem o que ele fez possa por um novo órgão ; os ghouls têm sequer os mesmos tipos de sangue que os humanos? E como é que o médico podia ter a certeza que o corpo do Kaneki não sabem e contribuíram… ao Kaneki e o ajudaram? As cirurgias não são algo que um médico faz sozinho num quarto por isso pelo menos uma mão cheia de pessoas que trabalham no hospital
Aprendi eventualmente a ignorar estas questões mas quando existem tantas num período de tempo tão curto é dificil de o fazer. Em “A Metamorfose” a forma como Gregor se transforma numa barata também nunca é mencionada, de facto a primeira linha do livro é algo como “Gregor Samsa acordou, metamorfizado como uma barata.” porém funciona pois o foco do livro é no relacionamento cada vez mais deteriorado com a sua familia, o autor nunca tenta construir um mundo em torno da estória, a frase também ajuda o leitor a perceber uma pequena fração da maneira como o Gregor se deve estar a sentir.
Para além do aspecto mais “cientifico”, tirando a jornada que termina com o Kaneki a aceitar o seu lado ghoul e a devorar a Rise, finalmente desistindo da ideia de coexistência entre ghouls e humanos (o que agradeço desde que pessoalmente acredito que o cliché de alguém tentar fazer com que duas espécies completamente diferentes coexistirem é extremamente idiótico, especialmente quando ghouls são os predadores da humanidade), também temos outras personagens para melhor explorar-mos, uma delas sendo Hide, o melhor amigo do Kaneki, que na minha opinião devia ter sido mais explorado, ou pelo menos ter aparecido em mais cenas com o Kaneki em geral para que possamos perceber o quão eles se importam um com o outro, em vez de apenas ver-mos como se conheceram.
Estavam de certa maneira limitados em termos de tempo no sentido em que tinham que acabar a anime com a mudança de personalidade drástica do Kaneki já que o tinham posto na opening sabendo que os leitores da manga iam começar a gritar sobre o quão fixe o outro Kaneki era, algo que foi uma má ideia pois fez com que algumas partes da anime parecessem apressadas mas não havia nenhum bom ponto para pararem antes da luta entre o Yamori e o Kaneki, e mesmo assim a temporada acabou a meio do conflito entre o Anteiku, o CCG e a Aogiri tree logo o melhor que podiam ter feito era fazer a anime em 24 episódios mas eles provavelmente não queriam arriscar (a animação da 1ª temporada é muito boa na minha opinião, isso talvez seja parte da razão para a série ser tão curta).
Continuando a falar das personagens, a seguir temos a Touka, uma personagem de que eu gostei mas senti que ela não fez muito, para ser honesto demorou-me muito tempo para perceber que ela era o suposto “interesse amoroso” do Kaneki penso que parte disso provém de não haver muito desenvolvimento entre os dois, um problema comum com muitas personagens incluindo as de que eu vou falar a seguir, o Amon e o Mado, os dois agentes do CCG mais importantes na anime.
Amon foi uma personagem interessante, depois de lutar com o Kaneki ele começa a questionar as suas crenças, porém nada foi feito com isso e sinto que se tivessemos visto a sua história antes da luta, ou em algum ponto do anime teria sido mais interessante. Madou também teve o mesmo problema que o Amon, apenas depois de ele morrer descobrimos que ele tinha uma mulher que foi morta por ghouls, para que a audiência pudesse simpatizar mais com ele, uma tentativa fraca que apenas piora com o facto de apenas receber-mos meia dúzia de falas sobre o assunto. Uma vez mais uma personagem que precisava de mais fundação mas não pode ter por causa da pouca quantidade de episódios.
Relacionada com o Madou de certa maneira temos a Hinamo (a loli da série?) mas eu não tenho muito para dizer sobre ela, podemos perceber como se deve sentir melhor do que com outras personagens porque a sua mãe morreu a tentar protegé-la e eles não pararam aí e até usaram os kagune dos pais dela contra ela mas para além disso não há nada de que eu queira falar.
O próximo na lista é o Nishiki, outro amigo do Hide que também é um ghoul e ataca o Hide enquanto este e o Kaneki o estavam a seguir porque precisavam de uma ameaça e depois o Kaneki aniquila-o completamente, ele sobrevive de alguma maneira e agora esta a relaxar com o Kaneki e os outros...é só isto, bem, pelo menos ele torna-se simpático depois de se começar a trabalhar no Anteiku.
Em último lugar suponho que devia mencionar o Tsukiyama, ele é hilariante, também é um pouco louco mas pelo menos no caso dele as outras personagens apercebem-se disso e tentam minimamente manter a distância...
Acho que me concentrei demasiado nos aspectos negativos, até pode parecer que eu não gostei da série algo que não é verdade, eu gostei da anime principalmente devido ao desenvolvimento do Kaneki, algo que foi feito bem o suficiente e como ponto principal da anime acredito que fizeram um bom trabalho, só quando começo a olhar para outras coisas é que começo a notar o quão apressada a anime parece ás vezes, especialmente porque já passou muito tempo desde a altura em que eu vi a anime, vou admitir que gosto de gore algo que pode ter contribuído para a minha apreciação da série…
Tenho que dar uma rating ao anime, mesmo que eu não seja bom a fazer isso, uhm, acho que lhe vou dar 3,8 centopeias carnívoras de 5? (Não perguntem onde arranjei 4 quintos de uma
